Jharkhand is on high alert after bird flu cases were reported at a state-run poultry farm
State animal husbandry director Chandan Kumar stated that the central government-mandated SOPs have been implemented to contain the outbreak.
Officials said on Wednesday that confirmed cases of bird flu at a state-run poultry farm in Bokaro prompted the Jharkhand government to put all such facilities on high alert and issue directives to set up control rooms in all 24 districts to monitor the situation.
Following the confirmation of avian influenza (H5N1), commonly known as bird flu, in samples sent from the poultry farm by the Bhopal-based National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAN), state animal husbandry director Chandan Kumar stated that prescribed SOPs laid down by the central government had been implemented.
"Approximately 70-80% of the 1,000-odd chickens died over the last week, with the remainder culled after Bhopal confirms," Kumar said.
While orders have been issued to all districts to set up control rooms in order to track down any potential outbreaks, only cases from the aforementioned poultry farm have been reported thus far.
He Also Mentioned that "To check for any potential spread, the department will soon conduct random sampling within the 10-km radius of Bokaro and, We are also conducting contact tracing to determine the source of the outbreak," of the virus.
