Jammu: NABARD and Agri Department Organizes Awareness Programmes to Educate Bankers and Other Stakeholders
Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary in the Agriculture Production Department, was the guest of honor during the event
In collaboration with NABARD, the Department of Agriculture in Jammu conducted a day-long "Awareness Programme for Bankers and Other Stakeholders" to educate bankers and stakeholders about financing and credit options accessible to Farmer Producer Organizations. The event took place at Jammu's Kisan Ghar Talab Tillo.
Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary in the Agriculture Production Department, was the guest of honor during the event. Anamika, DGM of NABARD, delivered a comprehensive presentation covering various pertinent topics such as the current status of FPOs in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the associated challenges and issues.
The ACS stated that to sensitize banks about financing Farmer's Producer Organizations (FPOs), a uniform policy needs to be formulated and approved by JKUT, which should be adopted by all banks. This policy should include details on the process of opening an account, FPO compliance, documentation requirements, credit guarantee procedures, and the scale of finance, all in accordance with the guidelines set forth by NABARD and the Government of India.
The ACS urged the relevant authorities and stakeholders to provide credit to all FPOs in an effortless manner, without any complications. He also advised them to expedite the documentation process and address other associated concerns in compliance with the standards.
He requested that the local banks strengthen their efforts to comprehend the guidelines and implementation of FPOs so that a majority of FPOs can approach these banks to access financing and avail the various components of CSS for FPOs.
NABKISAN's Senior Assistant Vice President, Mahmood Hussain, offered an outline of their FPO financing activities as well as the process for getting credit guarantees from NABSANRAKSHAN.
Various stakeholders, including representatives from multiple banks, provided information regarding the requirements for opening accounts and financing for FPOs. They also shared some of the challenges that banks are encountering in financing FPOs.
In addition, the Director of Agriculture provided an overview of the department's FPO programs. During the meeting, members of the FPOs also voiced their concerns and raised issues they encountered while seeking financing for their FPOs.
Several individuals, including K K Sharma, the Director of APD Jammu; Ram Sevak, the Director of Horticulture Jammu; R S Tara, the Director of CAD Jammu; Dr. Arun Manhas, the Director of Agro; representatives from banks; stakeholders; and members of FPOs were present at the programme.
