J&K: Rs 900 Crore Sanctioned For Holistic Development Of Agriculture Sector
Over 900 farmers and other stakeholders, including agri startups, attended the day-long Mela to learn about the latest scientific farming techniques and government schemes.
The Centre has sanctioned Rs 900 crore for the holistic development of the agriculture sector in Jammu and Kashmir, a government official said while taking part in a 'Kisan Mela'.
Over 900 farmers and other stakeholders, including agri startups, attended the day-long Mela to learn about the latest scientific farming techniques and government schemes.
According to the Director of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare, the event was organized to encourage farmers to cultivate millets in addition to educating farmers and agri-startups about the latest developments.
"The central government has sanctioned Rs 900 crore for holistic development of the agriculture sector, intending to double farmer income in J&K," he said.
The Kisan Mela, which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan, marked the start of agricultural activities in the hilly district after a long winter.
The stalls displayed advanced farm technolog0069es, indigenous farming methods, and other innovative techniques developed by a variety of companies, startup owners, and progressive farmers.
"We intend to completely transition to millets by 2047 to meet the needs of future generations," Sharma said.
Progressive farmers and agri-startups thanked the government for organizing the event at the start of the agricultural season in the district.
"I've been doing organic farming for the past 20 years. I grow quinoa, buckwheat, red paddy, vegetables, and apples, among other things, and I am aware that organic farming protects the environment, improves soil health, saves water, and lowers input costs.
"I only use organic manure for seed treatment, insect-pest, and disease management," Chirala farmer Balwan Singh (64) explained.
