Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) is taking big steps towards green energy and boosting agriculture with its latest move to solarize 4000 agriculture pumps. This initiative falls under the PM-KUSUM Scheme (Component-C), which aims to promote renewable energy across the nation.

The Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) is leading the charge by inviting tenders online from eligible bidders. These bidders will be responsible for supplying, installing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining grid-connected solar PV systems for the pumps.

The tender process is thorough, following a two-cover system to ensure transparency and efficiency. Interested vendors must be capable of handling solar PV systems ranging from 1 kWp to 30 kWp. This includes providing necessary equipment like SVFD and other components.

The deadline for submitting bids is March 1, 2024, by 5:00 PM, and the technical bids will be opened on March 4, 2024, at 12:30 PM.

To ensure seriousness and commitment from bidders, they are required to furnish an interest-free bid bond of INR 50 Lakhs in the form of TDR/FDR/CDR/Bank Guarantee, payable to CEO JAKEDA.

With an estimated project cost of INR 1.4 billion, J&K is keen on selecting vendors with a strong track record. Interested parties must demonstrate an average annual turnover of INR 200 million over the last three financial years. Additionally, their net worth should be at least 100 per cent of the paid-up share capital as of the last day of the preceding financial year.

To maintain quality and adhere to regulations, only solar modules listed in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's Approved List for Models and Manufacturers will be used.

This move aims to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources in agriculture, which will help mitigate environmental impact and make farmers more resilient to fluctuating energy prices.

By integrating solar power into agriculture, J&K is not only promoting sustainable practices but also enhancing agricultural productivity in the region. This initiative aligns with the larger goal of the nation to harness renewable energy for a greener and more sustainable future.
