ISARC Raises Farmer Awareness on Agricultural Innovations
ISARC scientists shared insights on new research on paddy farming, while the food products made from traditional rice varieties garnered significant attention from the farmers in attendance.
The International Rice Research Institute South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) recently presented its range of food products derived from traditional rice varieties at a three-day event held at Banaras Hindu University from June 10 to 18. Organized by the Bharatiya Kisaan Sangh, the program aimed to raise awareness among farmers about innovative agricultural practices.
During the exhibition, ISARC established a stall to provide participating farmers with information on advanced farming techniques, cutting-edge technology, and seed preservation.

Sudhanshu Singh, the Director of ISARC, emphasized the institute's commitment to minimizing the environmental impact while addressing research, food security, and nutritional concerns. ISARC actively promotes the production of rice-based food systems and facilitates the skill development of value-added products derived from rice.
Dinesh Kulkarni from Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, along with others, visited ISARC's stall. The ISARC Director provided a comprehensive overview of the institute's work. Impressed by the cookies made from Kalanamak rice, Kulkarni expressed admiration, stating, "ISARC's commendable efforts in rice research and development, particularly in the development of value-added rice products, will unlock new possibilities for farmers."

About ISARC
The International Rice Research Institute South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) is a dedicated regional facility that fosters research collaboration, training, and service provision for institutions, scientists, and stakeholders in India, as well as other South Asian and African countries.
ISARC has been established in Varanasi at the premises of the National Seed Research and Training Centre (NSRTC) through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare (DoACFW) of the Government of India and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) based in the Philippines. Notably, ISARC represents the first research center established by IRRI outside of its headquarters in the Philippines.
