India-Israel Focus on Enhancing Cooperation in Agriculture, Water, Security, & Defence
The visit by the Israeli foreign minister to India highlighted the strong relationship between the two countries and their commitment to further enhancing their strategic partnership. The main pillars of the strategic partnership between India and Israel include agriculture, water, defence, and security.
The foreign ministers of India and Israel, S Jaishankar and Ell Cohen, respectively, have reviewed the strategic partnership between the two countries during Cohen's three-day visit to India. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in several areas, including defence, security, water, and agriculture. The talks also included the potential for cooperation in high-tech digital and innovation, connectivity, mobility, tourism, finance, and health.
The ministers noted the progress in 1202 and cooperation in multilateral forums. The two countries signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the CII India-Israel business forum. This marked a new era of cooperation and partnership between the business communities of both nations. Additionally, both countries signed a letter of intent to establish two centers of water technology in India.
Cohen also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day. However, he had to cut short his visit due to the deteriorating security situation in Israel after the bombing of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of three Palestinian militants. Despite the situation, both countries continued their discussions, noting the progress in their partnership and highlighting their commitment to further enhancing cooperation.
