The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Shimla and some parts of Himachal Pradesh, predicting increased rainfall activity after May 1 and 2. Over the past 24 hours, the state has experienced isolated rain, hail storms, and thunderstorms in mid and high mountains, with temperatures dropping by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has forecasted further rainfall, hail storms, and thunderstorms for April 29-30 and May 1-2 in Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, and Shimla districts, with heavy rainfall likely after May 1.

The Hill Resort Shimla received 4.5 mm of rainfall, and Sangrah in the Sirmaur district received 8 mm, as stated by the IMD. On April 11, a top IMD scientist announced that India is expected to experience a normal monsoon this year after light rainfall occurred in isolated areas across the state earlier in April.

The IMD's warning has urged farmers to follow advisories and guidelines issued by relevant departments due to potential damage to standing crops, fruit plants, and new plantings from hailstorms.

Himachal Pradesh recorded a maximum and minimum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius on April 19. This alert follows warnings issued by IMD for thunderstorms and gusty winds in parts of the country, including Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana.

In summary, the IMD has issued an orange alert for increased rainfall activity in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, and Shimla districts. The warning also highlights the potential damage that hailstorms may cause to standing crops, fruit plants, and new plantings, with farmers advised to follow guidelines issued by relevant departments.
