IIT Guwahati Unveils India's Largest Drone Pilot Training Organisation, to Support Women Farmers and Others
By equipping participants with a holistic understanding of drone technologies, this initiative not only enhances operational efficiency but also opens up avenues for post-retirement career options within the defence sector.
Recently, IIT Guwahati joined forces with EduRade to unveil the largest Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) in the nation. Spanning an expansive 18-acre campus, this initiative is poised to redefine drone pilot training in India.
The Pilot Training Organisation showcases the remarkable ability to concurrently operate 9 medium-class drones, marking a significant stride in bolstering the country's drone technology infrastructure.
The primary objective of this step is to not only foster widespread drone adoption but also to empower the youth, particularly in the North East and other regions of India, with indispensable skills tailored to the flourishing field of drone operations. Additionally, the RPTO aims to support women from self-help groups (SHGs) engaged in agriculture, as part of the Namo Drone Didi Yojna.

Central to the RPTO's offerings is the introduction of a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course. This meticulously crafted course is designed to augment the proficiency of aspiring drone pilots and furnish them with the requisite expertise to navigate the skies adeptly and accurately.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be conferred with a coveted Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) sanctioned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), thereby endowing them with the legal authority to engage in professional drone operations and embark on a lucrative career as Certified Drone Pilots.

Parallel to its civilian-centric initiatives, IIT Guwahati is spearheading an innovative drone training program tailored for defence personnel. This bespoke three-month training program is specially curated for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other officers, with the primary aim of modernizing the operations of the armed forces.
The program's comprehensive content has a diverse array of topics, related to pilot training, software operations, and applications. By equipping participants with a holistic understanding of drone technologies, this initiative not only enhances operational efficiency but also opens up avenues for post-retirement career options within the defence sector.
In essence, the inauguration of the Remote Pilot Training Organisation by IIT Guwahati heralds a significant milestone in India's drone technology landscape.
