IIT Guwahati Signs Agreement With Industry Partners To Launch Drone-Flying School
To establish a commercial drone-flying school on its campus, the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a few business partners.
To establish a commercial drone-flying school on its campus, the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a few business partners.
The Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON) and R C Hobbytech Solutions (RCH), signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT-Guwahati to work together on enhancing and expanding drone-based training, research, and manufacturing for a range of sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, wildlife conservation, and health care. The MoU was signed by the Acting Director of IITG, Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, the Managing Director of AMTRON, S. Sundar, and the Co-Founder of RCH, Biswajit Dey.
The commercial drone flying school will offer introductory courses in commercial drone flying in addition to other pertinent advisory and consultancy services, like helping clients renew their drone pilot's license and helping clients study for exams.
Iyer was quoted in the release as saying, "The three organizations will collaborate and actively engage in research and development activities, and the members of the IITG Drone Centre and this project's Technology Incubation Hub will be essential to it."
According to the press release, the school will also put its students in touch with businesses that require qualified drone pilots. The professional programmes will provide a wide range of services, including drone-based mapping and surveying, courses in geographic information systems, and programmes in coding and artificial intelligence.
To get a few prototype drones certified by the 'Quality Council of India' (QCI), IITG will work on developing them initially with assistance from industry partners. The Institute will provide all the required equipment, software, related hardware, and other utilities for the project.
To locate and manage any disaster in Assam, a disaster response management system will be created. According to the press release, a group of experts and students will be put together for the task, and ready-to-fly surveillance and payload delivery drones will also be set up.
AMTRON will support communication, IITG will create drones to meet the state's needs, and RCH will contribute the technical know-how required to create the drones and related systems.
According to a press release, the Disaster Response Cell at IIT Guwahati will be managed by the AMTRON Drone Team and the Drone Helpline Student Volunteer Team of the Institute.
