Himachal Pradesh: Govt. to Implement Per-Kilogram Purchase System In Mandis For Buying Apple
Himachal Pradesh Farmers Appreciate the government's decision as new norms claim to clear off apple purchases on a per kilo basis. This will also save apple growers from getting looted by middlemen and store interest.
Himachal Pradesh's state government recently announced that it would eliminate the options for buying apples in mandis or markets on a per-kilo basis.
This decision was made in response to the demands put forth by apple growers. As a result, this choice will immediately assist apple farmers in protecting themselves from middlemen robberies and in preserving their interests.
Farmers are advised to bring 24 kg of apples in boxes to be displayed in mandis in accordance with new regulations. They were also told to label the boxes with the weights of the individual cartons.
Apples will be purchased at average costs rather than in accordance with their corresponding grades. In order to weigh crops, brokers must actually install weighing equipment.
Also, Growers will have to weigh their crops at home before selling apples and other fruits. Even if the planter sells the product by weighing it in the mandi, the ladani or agent must weigh it first. Aadathis and Ladanis will be also registered and will have to purchase apples and other fruits by kilogram. The market committee will provide the appropriate number of weighing scales for the mandis.
A subcommittee made up of growers, Aadathis, Ladanis, and APMC officials will resolve any disagreements regarding the weight of apples in the market right away. This action will increase transparency and guarantee that growers get paid fairly for their produce.
Former MLA and senior politician of the CPI(M), Rakesh Singha, has called for additional clarification and adjustments to these rules. Additionally, he has asked the government to fix the costs of Apple transportation.
Apple goods are currently calculated based on the number of boxes and the distance traveled, with vehicle owners charging tiny gardening rent per box. In the interest of the gardeners, it has also been requested that the government apply all three rules prior to the start of the apple season.
The new system would make the apple market in Himachal Pradesh more transparent and equitable. Additionally, it will
defend the rights of apple farmers and stop intermediaries from taking advantage of them.
