The Himachal Pradesh government has introduced the 'Him Unnati' scheme, aiming to promote integrated and holistic agricultural activities to enhance farmers' income through the utilization of innovative technology. Officials announced on Sunday that the scheme would focus on the formation of 2,603 clusters across the state, with the objective of doubling farmers' income.

The 'Him Unnati' scheme emphasizes the strengthening of refrigerated vans, supply chains, and marketing for perishable produce. These measures will ensure that farmers have improved access to markets and are able to sell their perishable goods without incurring significant losses due to spoilage.

Currently, 889 clusters have been identified in various regions of Himachal Pradesh. The scheme will cover approximately 58,278 bighas (around 36,412 acres) of land, benefiting 28,873 families. The government's emphasis lies in integrating technology into the agriculture sector to streamline operations and improve overall productivity.

In order to ensure the optimal utilization of crops grown in the state, the Himachal government will prioritize value addition by enhancing the quality, taste, and nutritional value of these crops. This will be achieved through measures such as grading, processing, packaging, ideal storage, and cold storage facilities. By focusing on these aspects, the government aims to increase the market value of agricultural produce and enhance farmers' profitability.

The state government is also taking steps to promote natural farming practices. Financial assistance is being provided to farmers for the purchase of indigenous cows, and special natural farmer-producer organizations are being established to promote natural products. This initiative aims to encourage sustainable and eco-friendly farming methods that reduce the cost of agriculture, improve soil health, mitigate environmental pollution, and produce chemical-free, healthy food grains.
