Growers Will Learn About Latest Agri Tech At "Kisan Milni"

The latest agricultural technologies, such as the use of drones to spray pesticides and fertilizers or the benefits of using nano-DAP, will be shared with farmers from across Punjab as they gather in Ludhiana for the first-ever "Kisan Milni" on Sunday.

With the approval of the Centre for the commercial release of nano-DAP as a substitute for the more expensive DAP, this will be a significant game changer in farmer economics once these become commercially available to farmers. Because the cost of nano-DAP bottles is half that of a bag of DAP, the government's fertilizer subsidy bill will be reduced.

Farmers will also gain firsthand knowledge of chemical spraying on farmland using drones, which will save time and labor. 'The 'Kisan Milni' will provide farmers with an early look at the latest technologies on the market. A drone training center being established at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will also be discussed, so that young farmers can seek training and begin using drones," Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said.

Director (Agriculture) Gurvinder Singh stated that these cutting-edge technologies would be showcased in detail at the PAU Kisan Mela next month for a larger audience. Farmers will also learn about the availability of less expensive agricultural implements and machinery that can be purchased by small and marginal farmers, who account for 19% of all farmers in the state.

A kiosk will also be available to farmers to inform them about agricultural subsidies available through various federal and state programmes. According to the Director (Agriculture), the goal is to ensure that farmers are aware of the latest developments and begin implementing them to increase farm income.

The main goal of holding the "Kisan Milni" is to gather feedback from farmers on the agricultural problems they face and the practical solutions they would like the government to implement. "The farmers will be told about the traditional crops grown in different areas of the state and if these can once again be grown there. This will assist us in developing a practical and implementable agriculture policy," Dhaliwal concluded.
