Govt of India Sets Up National Turmeric Board, Aims for $1Billion Exports by 2030
The National Turmeric Board will lead and enhance turmeric-related initiatives, promoting better collaboration with the Spices Board and government agencies for the turmeric sector's development.
In a positive development, the Indian government on Wednesday, officially established the National Turmeric Board to boost the growth of turmeric and its products. This initiative aims to boost awareness, international markets, research, and value-added products, benefitting turmeric growers.
India, a global leader in turmeric production, is set to further elevate its position in world trade with the target of achieving $1 billion in exports by 2030. India is the world's leading producer, consumer, and exporter of turmeric, accounting for over 75% of global production in 2022-23, with an output exceeding 11 lakh tonnes.
The Board's key responsibilities include raising awareness and consumption of turmeric, both domestically and internationally. The main focus is on enhancing the skills of turmeric growers, ensuring adherence to quality and food safety standards.
