Govt Examining OBC Reservation In All-India Quota Seats Of State Agricultural Universities
In a written reply presented in Lok Sabha, Tomar said, “The issue of implementation of OBC reservation in All India Quota (AIQ) Seats of State Agricultural Universities is under examination.”

On Tuesday, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated that the matter of implementing OBC reservation in all-India quota seats of state agricultural universities is currently being examined.
In a written reply presented in Lok Sabha, Tomar said, “The issue of implementation of OBC reservation in All India Quota (AIQ) Seats of State Agricultural Universities is under examination.”
In response to a question regarding whether the government has received legal advice from the legal affairs department on the matter, he confirmed that they are indeed seeking legal opinion on the implementation of OBC reservation in All India Quota Seats of State Agricultural Universities.
DMK MP from Tamil Nadu, A K P Chinraj, inquired whether the government has sought legal advice regarding the implementation of reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the All India Quota Seats of State Agricultural Universities. Additionally, he questioned whether the central government intends to implement this policy.
Tomar stated that the total budget allocation for the Ministry of Agriculture (including DARE) and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying for the year 2023-24 amounts to 2.92 percent.
DARE refers to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education.
The budget allocation to the agriculture sector was 3.90 percent during 2021-22 and 3.51 percent during 2022-23, he added.
