Government Introduces 5-Day Training Program for Agri and Waste Management Entrepreneurship

Padma Bhushan Dr. R. B. Singh inaugurated the Five-Day Training Program focused on Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Agricultural and Industrial Waste Management, to promote Environmental Sustainability. Moreover, it will contribute to the national objective of sustainable development and promote a cleaner, healthier environment.

The Division of Environmental Sciences is partnering with the Zonal Technology Management and Business Plan Development Unit at IARI, New Delhi, as well as the 'Young Professionals for Agricultural Development India' to host an event.

The primary objective of this program is to promote awareness and provide education on efficient waste management techniques. Additionally, it aims to enhance the understanding of entrepreneurial opportunities among young individuals.

In his inaugural speech, Professor R.B. Singh stressed the significance of effectively managing agricultural and industrial waste to ensure environmental sustainability and foster entrepreneurship. He highlighted the crucial link between achieving zero waste, eliminating hunger, and prioritizing the well-being of individuals, the planet, and prosperity.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, he advocated for the adoption of a circular economy, which would promote entrepreneurship and secure livelihoods, ultimately contributing to improved public health indicators.

The program will encompass a range of topics related to waste management, including the production of biogas and bio-slurry, the creation of biofuels, the significance of PUSA decomposer in managing agricultural residue, techniques for extracting bioactive compounds for use in industrial and agricultural applications, biodegradation approaches for waste management, the utilization of blue-green algae as a nutrient-rich formulation, the repurposing of waste from the sugarcane industry for various sectors, the use of horticultural waste as an organic pesticide, case studies on startups that have developed innovative solutions using waste materials, the utilization of biomass through vermicomposting, leaf-enriched compost, and mushroom production, engineering advancements in animal block technology and pellet development, and adding value to ornamentals through the use of agricultural waste.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to visit a waste-to-electricity plant in Tehkhand and the National Thermal Power Corporation in Dadri.

A total of 49 individuals, including 15 participants from various states and two international candidates from Korea and Nepal, have enrolled in the training program. These participants come from diverse educational backgrounds. Notably, 34% of the candidates are female.

The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Akrti Sharma, the Head of ZTMBPD, expressing gratitude to all.
