In a bid to aid orange-exporting farmers who faced significant losses due to a drastic hike in import duty by Bangladesh, the Maharashtra government has sanctioned a relief fund of ₹169.60 crore. The move comes as a response to the hardships faced by farmers and is aimed at alleviating their financial burdens incurred during the recent challenges in the export market.

Minister of Minorities Abdul Sattar addressed concerns raised by Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), led by Mohan Mate, regarding the plight of orange farmers. Sattar assured the assembly that he would engage with Finance Minister Ajit Pawar to secure relief for the distressed farmers, and a formal proposal would be presented in the state cabinet.

"The state did not interfere in the center’s jurisdiction. But we have approved this amount to help the orange farmers," stated Minister Sattar during the discussion. The decision reflects the government's commitment to supporting the agricultural community in the face of unforeseen challenges, particularly those arising from international trade dynamics.
