Goa state government has agreed to install 100 turnkey solar dryers for drying items such as fish, jackfruit, breadfruit, and chilies. The solar dryers' three-phase installation is expected to improve both the drying process and the finished product.

Goa government is rallying for the installation of solar dryers to produce dried food items more quickly. The National Institute of Solar Energy has developed a variety of agricultural and horticultural products by combining a revolutionary solar dryer and space heating system with a thermal storage system.

According to a senior officer, in the first phase, site visits will be conducted for a feasibility study. A pilot demonstration and field study will be carried out in the second phase, with two units for each drying application.

According to the officer, after the first two phases, the state will solicit bids to supply, install, and monitor solar dryers.

The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) has designed and developed an innovative solar dryer cum space heating system with a thermal storage system that can be used to dry a variety of agricultural and horticultural products.

"The solar dryer can heat incoming air to 60 degrees Celsius above ambient (up to 120C degrees), making it ideally suited for many agriculture and horticulture drying applications. On a sunny day, the solar air heating system can provide all of the heat or act as a pre-heat in cloudy conditions. It can operate independently via our modular system or as a pre-heat to traditional mechanical operations, according to the officer.

The National Institute of Solar Energy, an independent research and development organization under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has built solar dryers as part of a pan-Indian effort to develop solar dryer and space heating systems.

Following the first two phases, the state would solicit bids for the delivery, installation, and maintenance of the solar dryers, according to the officer. NISE created and developed an innovative solar dryer and space heating system with a thermal storage system that can be used to dry a variety of agricultural and horticultural products.
