Recently Ideanomics has announced an investment in Solectrac, an electric tractor company While farming has traditionally relied on diesel-powered vehicles, Solectrac (a California based startup) hopes to demonstrate that electric tractors can perform just as well.

Not all tractors must travel long distances, but they must be able to pull, haul, and lift in a variety of conditions such as wet, muddy, dusty, cold, hot, and so on. And, with an electric drive-train, it can do all of that while being quieter, less expensive, and a cleaner medium than a diesel tractor.

Ideanomics is an investment firm that hopes to accelerate the growth of electric vehicles, Solectrac, an electric tractor manufacturer, is one of their targets. Solectrac may be one of the first companies to introduce electrified transportation and production technology to the agricultural industry.

Solectrac has already delivered its small electric tractor to the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, where it is being tested for use in the plant nursery. The Solectrac e25 electric tractor boasts a 22kWh battery that provides up to 6 hours of run time. According to the company's website, it is specifically designed for "hobby farms, golf courses, sports fields, equestrian centers, and municipalities."

Ideanomics wishes that the investment tie-up will help the company to expand in future references by meeting more significant consumer demand. Furthermore, a press release by Solectrac exclusively mentions an introduction of a new model next year, escalating its dealer network, and intensifying R&D for future models.

Everyone knows agriculture is an ever-expanding and changing field. The use of electric equipment will allow farmers to reduce their expenses while increasing their income and providing more stability with more yield.
