Recently the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal and Director of Agriculture, Dr. Gurvinder Singh, of Punjab Agricultural University had an interface with Dr. Josef Thoma, head of expansion, agricultural inputs, BayWa AG, Munich, Germany.
Thoma was in India for the 5th Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, which took place on February 23-24 at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Mohali.
As per a statement by Joseph Thoma, with its climate strategy and forward-thinking environmental management, the BayWa group aims to mitigate negative impacts as much as possible while also helping to protect the foundation of life.
During the PAU tour, Thoma was captivated by the soil museum and wheat varieties, including diabetic and high zinc varieties. He was also intrigued by sensor-based drip irrigation systems and subsurface wheat irrigation, as well as super elite potato seed production combining tissue culture, aeroponics, and poly screen house cultivation.
He stated that seeing such innovative technologies in use at the university was an enlightening experience.
Gosal concentrated on research breakthroughs in protection and processing technologies synergized with out-of-the-box technology transfer methodologies while briefing the visitor on the PAU's current status. He insisted that the university was concentrating on developing technologies that increase output while posing no environmental risks.
Farm mechanization, post-harvest processing, food engineering interventions, value chain analysis, the creation of enhanced crop varieties and their production-protection technology package, saline-alkaline soil reclamation technology, cropping systems, and agro-ecology-based input application, etc. are just a few of the university's ground-breaking accomplishments that were previously summed by Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, the director of research at PAU.
