GB Pant University Hosts 114th All India Farmers' Fair, Showcases Agricultural Excellence with Record Seed Sales

The four-day fair began with a major profit, selling Rabi crop seeds worth Rs 55 lakhs on its second day. Multiple counters, including the NEBCRC and University Farm, made the sales possible.

The 114th All India Farmers' Fair and Industrial Exhibition, hosted by GB Pant University in Pantnagar, Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand drew a substantial crowd of farmers and agriculture enthusiasts. The four-day event made a big impact, with a big start on the second day, marked by significant seed sales of various Rabi crop seeds worth an impressive Rs 55 lakhs.

Seed sales were conducted through numerous counters, like the NEBCRC, Breeder Seed Production Centre, University Farm, and ATIC. Research centers set up booths, generating an extra Rs 1.6 lakhs from seed and plant sales, along with publications worth approximately Rs 10,000.

JP Jaiswal, the Director of Extension Education, stated that approximately 4,000 registered farmers actively took part, and nearly 2,000 unregistered attendees enthusiastically joined the event. The day included hybrid calf auctions at the Instructional Dairy Farm and informative lectures on millet cultivation and successful sheep and goat farming.

The fair broadened its scope to drive agricultural progress within the state, presenting a diverse array of crops that included Shri Anna, Jowar, Bajra, Ragi, and lesser-known millets. Additionally, it showcased valuable agricultural techniques like Azolla farming and beekeeping initiatives, introduced innovative food processing methods, and exhibited value-added millet products created by women from self-help groups.

Furthermore, a variety of companies were on hand to provide essential services such as soil fertility testing and solutions for crop protection, highlighting the fair's full commitment to advancing agriculture in the region.
