In a bid to alleviate the longstanding concerns of farmers, a Kollam-based startup, Freeman Robots, has unveiled a groundbreaking solution - a robot named Gardro. Designed by Prince Mamman, the founder of Freeman Robots, Gardro is equipped with cutting-edge technology that can identify and eliminate menacing weeds, safeguarding the health and growth of crops.

Recognizing the detrimental impact of weeds on agriculture, Prince founded Freeman Robots in 2021, after gaining valuable experience in other private companies, including Genrobotics Innovations in Thiruvananthapuram, renowned for its innovative manhole-cleaning robot, Bandicoot.

Gardro boasts a compact and battery-powered design, making it easily maneuverable in fields and gardens. The robot's camera acts as a sensor, precisely identifying weeds and efficiently removing them using attached blades.

Operating in both automatic and manual modes, Gardro is a versatile tool for farmers. In automatic mode, it detects and eliminates weeds efficiently, saving farmers time and effort. The device can function for up to three hours on automatic mode.

The cost-effective price of Rs 30,000 makes Gardro accessible to small vegetable farms and gardens. The startup is already working on adapting the robot for other crops, including paddy fields.

Beyond its practical applications, Gardro aims to attract the next generation to farming by showcasing the possibilities of technology-driven agriculture. By striking a balance between modern technology and sustainable farming practices, Gardro envisions a future where farmers can embrace innovation to cultivate crops more efficiently.

With successful trials conducted in a vegetable farm in Thiruvananthapuram, Gardro marks a significant step towards a weed-free and prosperous future for farmers across India. As Freeman Robots continues its research and development for the robot's enhanced versions, the agricultural community eagerly awaits the potential benefits Gardro could bring to the world of farming.
