G20 Technical Workshop on Climate Resilient Agriculture Concludes Successfully in Hyderabad

The 'Climate Resilient Agriculture' technical workshop, held over three days, wrapped up on Wednesday in Hyderabad as part of the G20 summit's agenda.

The G20 technical workshop on Climate Resilient Agriculture, a three-day event hosted by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, came to a successful close on Wednesday in Hyderabad.

The workshop, held from September 4-6, saw the participation of approximately 100 delegates, including representatives from G20 member states, invited nations, and international organizations.

Key officials from various Indian ministries, including Agriculture, Jal Shakthi, Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Earth Sciences, were in attendance during the event. They presented their insights into agricultural research concerning climate change on a global scale.

The inaugural session featured the presence of Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of DARE and Director-General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Shobha Karandlaje, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare and Dr. SK Chaudhari, Deputy Director-General (Natural Resource Management) at ICAR, served as the Chair of the G20 Technical Workshop for India.

Throughout the three-day workshop, discussions centered on various aspects of climate-resilient agriculture, including the need for innovations, the scaling up of case studies and experiences, and the policy, finance, and institutional requirements to foster climate-resilient agriculture.

Prominent delegates from different nations and international organizations explored technological, institutional, and policy-related demands and priorities. They also examined scientific and innovative solutions needed to address emerging challenges and reduce uncertainty within agricultural food systems.

DDG Chaudhari emphasized the workshop's value, highlighting the participation of international delegates from various countries. The discussions primarily revolved around research, technology development, its implementation for the benefit of farmers, and policy and financial management in the context of climate-resilient agriculture.

Dr. VK Singh, Director of ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), noted that besides G20 countries, nations such as Oman and Mauritius also actively engaged in the meeting. The event provided a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences related to climate-resilient agriculture and included productive discussions on these critical issues.
