Chandigarh is all prepared to host the second meeting of the Agricultural Deputies of the Agricultural Working Group for the G20 Summit. Over 85 delegates from 19 nations, the European Union, 10 invited countries, and international organizations are expected to participate in the meeting.

Ritesh, the Joint Secretary (IC) of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, expressed the significance of the upcoming event by stating that “the second Agricultural Deputies Meeting of AWG is an essential platform for countries to convene and deliberate on methods to achieve sustainable agriculture, food security, and nutrition.” He further stated that “hosting the event in Chandigarh is an honor, and they eagerly anticipate productive discussions.”

During the ongoing meeting in Chandigarh, discussions will focus on four key themes, namely food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture with a climate-smart approach, inclusive agricultural values and food systems, and digitalization for agricultural transformation.

Additionally, on Wednesday, the 12th session of the agricultural market information platform, which was established during the 2011 G20 summit to tackle agricultural challenges, will take place.

Later today, the AMIS will be electing its new chair for the 2023-24 term. Unlike the Group of 20, where the presidency is rotated and currently held by India, the AMIS does not follow this practice and is currently chaired by the United States.

An evening millet food festival has been scheduled for the delegates at Rock Garden as part of the international year of Millet's celebrations. Additionally, excursions to Sukhna Lake and Pinjore Garden have also been planned for the upcoming days.

The official session of the Agricultural Development Meeting (ADM) is scheduled to commence on Thursday. The delegates will be welcomed by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Som Prakash. The primary objective of the two-day meeting, which concludes on Friday, is to create a communique based on the agenda presented during the previous ADM held in Indore last month. The meeting will include the participation of joint secretary-level delegates from various nations, and it will be chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture.
