In a significant move aimed at enhancing the operational landscape for food business operators (FBOs), the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has put forth a groundbreaking recommendation. FSSAI CEO, G Kamala Vardhana Rao, revealed in an official statement that licenses issued to FBOs could potentially span a period of five years, a notable shift from the current one-year term.

The decision emerged after a comprehensive review of food product sampling status during the 41st session of the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) held in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. This move reflects a proactive approach to aligning regulations with the evolving needs of the food and beverage industry.

The FSSAI underscored that the extension of license tenure was proposed in response to appeals from the food and beverage sector to facilitate ease of conducting business. G Kamala Vardhana Rao went on to emphasize that the authority is committed to training food handlers at the revered Tirumala Tirupati Devsthanams, while also bolstering laboratory capabilities. The overarching objective is to ensure the provision of safe and uncontaminated food for the multitude of pilgrims, which exceeds a daily count of 2.5 lakhs.

This initiative aligns with the recent announcement made by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, underlining the government's commitment to raising food safety standards across the country.
