Farmers' unions will protest outside the Parliament on the 20th of March

Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, a conglomerate of several farmer unions that led the year-long agitation against the three farm laws, has announced a "mahapanchayat" outside Parliament on March 20 to protest the "anti-farmer" budget and the farming community's pending issues. The announcement came following a national-level meeting of the conglomerate on Thursday at Jat Dharamshala in Kurukshetra. Some of the SKM's major long-pending demands include a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price procurement of all crops, loan waiver, pension for farmers and agricultural workers, pro-farmer policy for insurance claims of damaged crops, withdrawal of Electricity Amendment Bill 2022, and dismissal of Ajay Kumar Mishra, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, for his alleged role in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmer killings.

During the briefing, farmer leaders described the budget as "anti-farmer" and "anti-agriculture" due to drastic cuts in all allocations pertaining to farmers, rural development, education, health, MNREGA, and food security, in addition to fertilizer subsidy cuts. The leaders also stated that the next steps for the pan-India farmers movement would be decided at a future SKM meeting.

The meeting, which was presided over by farmer leader Yudhvir Singh, also finalized the rules and guidelines for various citizens' affiliations with the platform and its structural composition in order to consolidate and expand the umbrella organization.

The meeting also passed a resolution demanding that Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh be fired after being accused of sexual assault by a female coach. The SKM expressed its support for the victim and various social platforms fighting for justice in all cases involving the safety of female athletes.
