On Thursday, there was a dispute between the Delhi Police and wrestlers regarding a scuffle that occurred at Jantar Mantar late at night. This resulted in a political argument, and the wrestlers threatened to return their medals and awards, including the Padma Shri, to the government.
Moreover, a group of farmers who were heading to Delhi to show support for the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar were intercepted by the police at the Singhu border. The officials reported that 24 of the farmers have been apprehended and are currently in custody.
In the aftermath of the commotion, the Delhi Police have heightened their patrolling efforts, augmented the number of police checkpoints, and implemented robust barricading measures in the border regions. Although they have clarified that the borders have not been completely sealed, they are maintaining a rigorous surveillance system to monitor the movement of the farmers.
According to reports, a large number of farmers are expected to assemble at Jantar Mantar on May 8 to demonstrate their support for wrestlers. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, a non-political organization, has released a statement announcing the gathering and restating their call for the arrest of Singh.
The SKM, a non-political faction that emerged from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha which led the year-long protest against the farm laws that have now been repealed, has announced that farmers' groups associated with them have unanimously passed a resolution calling for the arrest of the chief of the WFI. This decision was made during a virtual meeting. The wrestlers themselves are accused of sexual harassment and have launched a second round of protests at Jantar Mantar in response to this demand.
