Farmers Demand ₹35,000 per Acre Compensation in Kuruvai Crop Loss

Tiruchi district's farmers' representatives expressed deep concern about the challenges facing the standing kuruvai crop and the uncertain prospects for the upcoming samba season due to water scarcity. They have urged the State government to provide adequate compensation to affected farmers.

Veerasekaran, the state president of Bharathiya Kisan Sangam, voiced concern about the declining storage at the Mettur reservoir and advocated for a prompt survey to grant compensation. He suggested sending agricultural experts to villages to assess the situation and recommend suitable alternative crops for the upcoming season.

P. Chinnadurai, district president of the Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, called for a united front involving political parties and farmers' organizations to address the water issue with Karnataka.

Raja Chidambaram, the state secretary of Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, urged the government to increase the target for new agricultural connections.

P. Viswanathan, president of Tamizhaga Eri Mattrum Attru Pasana Vivasayigal Sangam, demanded compensation for shallot crop losses during the 2022-23 season in Thuraiyur taluk.

Collector M. Pradeep Kumar addressed concerns about banks adjusting financial assistance against loan dues, assuring that banks have been strictly instructed not to do so and that actions will be taken to rectify individual cases.
