FADA Report Reveals 9.66% Decline in Retail Tractor Sales in September 2023

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations of India (FADA) released a retail tractor sales report on September 9, 2023, shedding light on the state of the Indian tractor market. According to the report, there was a noticeable 9.66% decline in tractor sales in September 2023 compared to the same month in 2022.
In September 2023, a total of 54,492 tractor units were sold, a significant drop from the 60,321 units sold in September 2022. This decline in sales figures presented a challenging landscape for the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the tractor industry.
Brand-wise Sales Highlights:
1. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. recorded sales of 12,600 tractors in September 2023, down 1.04% from the 12,733 units sold in the same month of the previous year.
2. Swaraj reported sales of 9,853 tractors in September 2023, marking an impressive increase of approximately 12.28% compared to the 8,775 units sold in September 2022.

3. International Tractors Limited achieved sales of 7,056 tractors in September 2023, reflecting a growth of nearly 3.99% from the 6,785 units sold in September 2022. This growth also secured them a market share of 1.70%.
4. TAFE LIMITED also experienced a 2.80% loss, selling 6,862 tractors in September 2023, compared to 7,060 units sold in September 2022. Nevertheless, the company managed to maintain a market share of 0.89%.
5. Escorts Limited reported the sale of 5,826 tractors in September 2023, marking significant growth of almost 4.77% compared to the 5,561 tractors they sold in September 2022.
6. John Deere faced a decrease in sales, with 3,792 tractors sold in September 2023, representing an 18.10% decline from the 4,630 tractors sold in September 2022.

7. Eicher achieved robust tractor sales in September 2023, selling 3,745 units, which marked a 3.60% increase from the 3,615 units sold in September 2022.
8. CNH INDUSTRIAL reported the sale of 1,903 tractors in September 2023, which was fewer than the 2,263 tractors sold in September 2022, resulting in a decrease of 15.91%.
9. KUBOTA sold 918 tractors in September 2023, representing a significant drop from the 1,445 units sold in September 2022, marking a decrease of 36.47%. The company also experienced a 0.72% decline in market share during this period.
10. VST TILLERS TRACTORS faced a substantial decrease in sales, selling 279 tractors in September 2023, compared to the 538 tractors sold in September 2022. This decline resulted in a loss of 48.14%.
11. FORCE MOTORS LIMITED had a challenging performance in September 2023, with only 251 units sold, marking a significant decline of 27.25% compared to the retail sales of 345 units in September 2022.
For other tractor brands, retail sales in September 2023 amounted to only 1,407 units, a significant decrease from the 6,571 units sold in September 2022, indicating a nearly 78.59% decline.
