Even After Withdrawal Of Government's Call For Cow Hug On Valentine's Day, Social Media Meme Fest Continues
According to the Competent Authority and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, the Animal Welfare Board of India's appeal to celebrate Cow Hug Day on February 14, 2023, has been withdrawn.
Just four days after the announcement, the government canceled Cow Hug Day.
The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) withdrew its appeal to mark 14 February as Cow Hug Day on Friday, 10 February. According to an AWBI statement, the decision to backtrack was made in response to government directives.
The statement read, "According to the Competent Authority and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, the Animal Welfare Board of India's appeal to celebrate Cow Hug Day on February 14, 2023, has been withdrawn.”
Earlier, the Animal Welfare Board of India issued a notice appealing to "cow lovers" to celebrate February 14 - globally recognized as Valentine's Day - as 'Cow Hug Day,' sending netizens into a frenzy.
Hugging a cow will bring "emotional richness" and increase "individual and collective happiness," according to a government advisory body.
"Everyone is aware that the cow represents cattle wealth and biodiversity, is essential to Indian culture and rural economies, and sustains human life. Because of its nurturing nature akin to a mother, the giver of all, and its provision of riches to humanity, it is known as "Kamdhenu" and "Gaumata," according to a statement from the Animal Welfare Board.
This appeal was not taken lightly by netizens. As soon as the appeal went viral on social media, users began responding with their jokes, commentary, and hilarious memes
