Eighth Class Girl Wins National Award For Making Multifunctional Solar-Powered Vehicle For Small Farmers

An invention by a young girl from Delhi has caught the nation's attention, earning her a prestigious national award. Suhani Chauhan, an eighth-grade student at Amity International School in Pushp Vihar, has been honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for Innovation. President Droupadi Murmu presented her with this esteemed award at Vigyan Bhavan.

Chauhan's remarkable creation, known as So-Apt, is a versatile solar energy-powered vehicle tailored for agricultural purposes. This innovative vehicle, designed with the environment in mind, boasts zero carbon emissions, offering substantial benefits to small-scale farmers. Its multifunctional capabilities include:

  • Seed-sowing
  • Spraying
  • Irrigation
  • Hole digging
  • Various other agricultural tasks

These features make it an indispensable tool for farming communities, enhancing efficiency and productivity while minimizing environmental impact.

The young innovator emphasizes the potential impact of her invention on India's agricultural landscape. She highlights that if just 1% of the country's tractors were to adopt this technology, it could result in an annual diesel saving of ₹1,800 crores. Additionally, the reduction in carbon emissions, estimated at 272,000 metric tonnes of CO2 per year, could translate into valuable carbon credits worth approximately 10 million USD annually.

Chauhan also envisions leveraging the vehicle's solar panels to power additional appliances or even generate surplus electricity for sale, further enhancing its sustainability and economic viability.

Driven by her passion for advancing agriculture, Chauhan is already engaged in discussions with manufacturing companies to refine her innovation and mass-produce the vehicles for widespread adoption across India.
