In response to mounting complaints from farmers in Maharashtra about technical glitches in the online registration process, the deadline for enrollment under the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme has been extended by three days. Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde announced the extension, which now sets the new registration deadline to Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Initially scheduled to conclude on Monday, July 31, the registration process faced numerous challenges, primarily centered around technical issues that hampered farmers' access to the online platform. The overwhelming response from farmers to enroll in the scheme was evident, with 1.50 crore farmers from Maharashtra already having registered by paying a nominal fee of just Rs 1.

In a positive development, over the last 24 hours, an impressive 7.20 lakh farmers successfully submitted their crop insurance forms. However, it was the persistent difficulties experienced in rural areas that prompted the state government to intervene and seek an extension from the Centre. The technical problems encountered included server downtimes and connectivity issues in certain locations.

Minister Dhananjay Munde emphasized the importance of ensuring that no farmer is deprived of the benefits of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme due to these technical hurdles. In light of the situation, the state government promptly made the request to the Centre for an extension to allow ample time for all eligible farmers to complete the registration process.

The scheme, which offers crucial financial protection to farmers against crop losses due to natural calamities, has garnered immense interest from the agricultural community in Maharashtra. The government's decision to extend the deadline is aimed at facilitating a smooth and inclusive enrollment process, enabling maximum participation and providing equitable access to crop insurance benefits.

With the new deadline set for August 3, farmers are urged to take advantage of this additional opportunity to register for the scheme without any concerns about technical difficulties hindering their enrollment.

Authorities have assured farmers that measures are being taken to address the technical issues faced during the registration process, and they are working towards optimizing the online platform's performance to handle the influx of registrations effectively.

As the deadline approaches, officials from both the state and central governments are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to resolving any remaining issues promptly. The extension is seen as a proactive step to uphold the scheme's objectives and fulfill the government's commitment to safeguarding the interests of farmers across Maharashtra.

Farmers who are yet to enroll are advised to make use of the extended registration period and seek assistance from designated government offices or helplines to ensure a seamless enrollment process. By participating in the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme, farmers can secure their livelihoods and mitigate the risks posed by unforeseen agricultural challenges.

As the new deadline approaches, it is anticipated that the surge in registrations will continue, further strengthening the agricultural sector and providing financial security to the farming community across the state.
