CTCRI And Digital University Kerala To Join Hands On Agri-Tech Research
The institute is looking forward to working effectively with Ph.D. programs, as well as on international and national research projects, to create digital tools for managing natural resources sustainably, reducing the risk of disasters, and studying phenomic data and genomics.
The Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR-CTCRI) and the Digital University Kerala (DUK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on agricultural technology research by establishing a Centre of Excellence in agriculture technologies.
The agreement allows both institutions to collaborate and leverage their expertise to develop cutting-edge technologies to address value-chain issues in the country's agriculture sector. The collaboration will also include joint research and development projects to foster sustainable entrepreneurship, as well as joint student research programs.
"We believe that this unique relationship between a digital technology institution and a leading agriculture research organization will aid in the development of several innovative products to enhance digital enablement and agriculture transformation," DUK Vice-Chancellor Saji Gopinath quoted as saying in a press release.
"Tuber crops such as cassava, sweet potato, yam, elephant foot yam, and taro, among others, are climate-resilient crops with a bright future. Many researchable issues will be addressed in collaboration with the DUK," he commented.
DUK will establish a research centre at the CTCRI as part of the MoU, as well as various capacity-building programs in digital technologies for agricultural workers.
The director of CTCRI, G. Byju, stated that the institute is looking forward to working effectively with Ph.D. programs, as well as on international and national research projects, to create digital tools for managing natural resources sustainably, reducing the risk of disasters, and studying phenomic data and genomics.
