CM Tamang Initiates Foundation Stone for Organic Agriculture University in Sikkim
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang began the process of creating the Sikkim Organic Agriculture University (SOAU). The university will stimulate economic growth in the remote Mondegaon region, highlighted by the Chief Minister.
In a recent development, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the establishment of the Sikkim Organic Agriculture University (SOAU) in the Soreng district's Mondegaon. Tamang highlighted that Sikkim's distinction as India's inaugural organic state led to the establishment of SOAU envisioned as a hub of excellence for teaching organic farming-related disciplines.
The Chief Minister underlined that a significant number of students from Sikkim leave the state to engage in studies related to agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. Additionally, he shared his firsthand experience of meeting over 500 students exclusively in Dehradun who were pursuing both undergraduate and postgraduate courses centered around these disciplines.
Tamang remarked that with the establishment of SOAU in Sikkim, students from the state will no longer need to go elsewhere for their studies in these fields. He instructed officials to promptly locate temporary spaces for initiating courses.
