Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the INDGAP verification program on Thursday. The certification scheme helps farmers export their produce with quality standards, commanding premium prices both domestically and overseas.

The Quality Council of India (QCI) collaborated with the state government on the program, which promotes good agricultural practices in India, taking the requirements of domestic and international markets into account.

The program verifies crops under five categories: fruits, vegetables, composite crops, tea, green coffee, and spices. Farmers and farmers groups in Andhra Pradesh can obtain the certification, provided by the Andhra Pradesh State Organic Products Certification Authority (APSOPCA).

The INDGAP certification program will help farmers increase their crop yield in over 100 countries, including the United States of America and Europe. The state government said other countries recognize the GAP certification given to Indian farmers as INDGAP certification. In the future, INDGAP certification standards will align with the global GAP certification standards.

The launch of the INDGAP certification program comes as part of Andhra Pradesh's Sustainable Agri-Food Systems program, which implements INDGAP. The initiative aims to promote sustainability in agriculture, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

By ensuring quality standards in their produce, farmers can now export their crops to international markets with ease, which will increase their income and boost the country's agriculture industry. The program will also help India maintain its position as a leading exporter of agricultural products.
