Chhattisgarh Govt Launches Commercial Plantation Scheme with 100 Per Cent Subsidy to Boost Income of Farmers

Under the programme, commercial sapling plantations will be carried out on the fallow land of farmers willing to enroll in the scheme. The state government will provide a 100 per cent subsidy for plantations on up to 5 acres of land and a 50 per cent subsidy for plantations on more than 5 acres.

On Tuesday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched a scheme to promote commercial plantations in rural areas of the state that will boost the income of farmers.

Launching the scheme, titled ‘Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana’, at his office in the state Assembly premises here, Baghel said the scheme will also contribute to environment conservation.

“The scheme is aimed at promoting commercial tree plantation in rural areas to improve the income of farmers. Besides, it will also help in environment conservation and spread greenery,” the CM said.

The state government will provide a 100 per cent subsidy for plantations on up to 5 acres of land and 50 per cent subsidy for plantations on more than 5 acres, he said.

Apart from farmers, government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, private educational institutions, private trusts, gram panchayats, private land owners and land leaseholders can draw the benefits of the programme, Baghel said.

Under the scheme, 12 varieties of trees, including clonal eucalyptus, sandalwood, and bamboo, will be planted this year, officials said.

The state government has set a target of planting 15 crore trees on 1.80 lakh acres of land in the next 5 years, they said.

The beneficiaries of the scheme can get an annual income between Rs 15,000 and 50,000 per acre, the officials said.

So far, 20,000 farmers have enrolled for undertaking plantation on 30,000 acres of land under the scheme, they added.
