In a remarkable display of corporate responsibility and commitment to sustainable development, Bisleri International, India's leading packaged drinking water company, has successfully concluded a significant restoration project in the Kyagar region of Ladakh's Nubra Valley. This transformative initiative not only strengthens the local community's resilience but also addresses the pressing issue of water scarcity, providing a lifeline for agriculture in the region.

At the heart of this ambitious project lies the restoration of the Kyagar Panchayat Reservoir, a vital component of the area's water infrastructure. The reservoir, spanning an impressive 135 meters in length, 90 meters in width, and 2 meters in depth, underwent an exhaustive desilting and repair process. The aim was clear: optimize its capacity and operational efficiency to ensure its long-term functionality.

The results of the restoration project are nothing short of astounding. The reservoir's storage capacity has swelled to a staggering 24.3 million litres. This monumental increase in water storage now provides a dependable water source, indispensable for the agricultural needs of approximately 1,050 households and 210 families in the region.

This abundant water supply supports year-round crop irrigation, encompassing a diverse range of crops such as wheat, barley, apples, apricots, cherries, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, mustard seeds, beans, peas, carrots, cabbage, and various green vegetables. By extending agricultural activities beyond the monsoon season, it significantly enhances crop productivity. Additionally, it plays a pivotal role in livestock maintenance and contributes to improved sanitation facilities within the community.

Rigzin Wangdus, the Sarpanch of Kyagar Panchayat, expressed profound gratitude for Bisleri's unwavering dedication, saying, "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bisleri for stepping up to restore and repair the reservoir in our region, which suffered damage during the flash flood in July. Their unwavering dedication and forward-thinking approach are paving the way for a more promising future in this remarkable land, ensuring prosperity and sustenance for generations to follow."

This initiative underscores Bisleri International's 'Greener Promise' philosophy, a pledge to combat climate change, ensure access to safe and healthy water, and establish a robust circular economy. Under the Project Nayi Umeed initiative, Bisleri has already achieved remarkable success by restoring over 200 check dams in Gujarat and Maharashtra, collecting an astounding 22 billion liters of water. This monumental effort has positively impacted more than 124 villages and nearly 40,000 farming families.
