Bhagalpur: 1,168 Farmers Shortlisted in 7 Blocks, 1500 Acres of Land Issued by District Agriculture Office

No. of farmers have been shortlisted for organic farming in Bhagalpur a prominent district in Bihar. Around 1500 acres of land have been facilitated by the district agriculture office.

To promote organic agriculture, officials of the agriculture department have distributed “organic inputs” to the farmers under phase II of the organic corridor in the Bhagalpur district for the past 2 years.

Agriculture products like katara rice, vegetables, and horticulture products including mango, and banana have been issued under the organic corridor.

This initiative's major goal is to connect farmers with government programs that would promote organic and biodynamic farming for sustainable agriculture with a department support structure. It also aims to raise awareness of the growing importance of organic farming.

1500 acres of land have been issued by the district agriculture office under organic corridor(phase-II) and around 1,168 farmers have been shortlisted and segregated into 15 groups, in seven blocks of Jagdishpur, Nathnagar, Sultanganj, Kahalgaon, Pirpainty, and Kharik.

District Agriculture officer of Bhagalpur, Anil Kumar Yadav told that “ their effortless work is to provide organic inputs to their targeted farmers”.

These organic inputs have been extracted from the processing of plants and animals, neem cake, cow dung decomposition, biofertilizers, composting, and many more.

Further, he also told that chemical treatments result in soil degradation and cause several health issues. Organic agriculture aims at sustainable agriculture. Therefore through government grants farmers can purchase organic inputs.

A number of farmers have been shortlisted, and Yadav has stated that “action will be taken against slack coordinators who have been tasked with providing the farmers with access to organic inputs.”
