Bangladesh Agricultural Delegates Visit ISARC for Latest Rice Technology Developments
The primary objective of the visit was to leverage IRRI's extensive expertise and advancements in modern rice research.
A group of representatives from the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) recently embarked on a visit to the IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) in Varanasi. Their primary objective was to leverage IRRI's extensive expertise and advancements in modern rice research.
The visit entailed informative demonstrations and engaging discussions, centered around IRRI's latest achievements in rice technology. These encompassed areas like developing and testing rice varieties, ensuring high-quality seed production, employing effective varietal positioning techniques, proposing valuable value chain strategies, and implementing post-production practices.
Before their visit to ISARC, the delegation from the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation had a three-day exposure visit in Odisha. During this visit, they gained insights into the advancements made by IRRI in rice-based agricultural and food systems.
Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, the Director of ISARC, provided an overview of the center's efforts in enhancing rice-based agri-food systems. He emphasized the center's contribution to poverty and hunger alleviation in South Asia and worldwide.

Dr. Singh expressed gratitude for the exposure visits, which foster knowledge exchange among various institutions.
Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Member Director (Seed & Horticulture) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), expressed admiration for the advanced laboratory facilities at ISARC and the valuable educational opportunities it offers to visitors.
He highlighted that during their visit, they gained insights into how the institute actively promotes seed systems, rice breeding, precision agriculture, and various other crucial aspects.

Rahman expressed a keen interest in fostering further experiences and collaborations with ISARC, emphasizing their mutual objectives of enhancing farmers' well-being and fortifying food systems.
The delegation from the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), comprising key members such as Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Member Director (Seed & Horticulture), Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Joint Director (Seed Marketing), Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam Manik, Chief Coordinator, Research Cell and Program Coordinator of the BADC-IRRI Collaboration Program, and Dr. Ripon Sikder, Senior Assistant Director of the Research Cell, visited ISARC.
Additionally, leading scientists from IRRI Bangladesh were also part of the delegation. The purpose of their visit was to explore the latest advancements in rice technology.
