Australian Tech to Boost Farmer’s Income in Himachal Pradesh

Negi believes that the adoption of modern techniques will enable horticulturists to grow healthy plants and enhance their productivity, which will increase their income and contribute to the state's economy. Moreover, high-quality plants will attract more buyers, leading to better market prices.

Horticulture minister Jagat Singh Negi is leading a delegation to Australia to learn about modern techniques for growing fruit plants. Negi stated that the state government intends to adopt high-quality fruit plants and cultivate them using modern technology. Currently, most fruit plants in the state are grown through traditional methods or imported from other parts of the country, leaving them susceptible to diseases due to the lack of modern technology.

The delegation plans to study modern techniques for plant health management in Australia, including screening, testing, cleaning, and maintenance of exotic plants, as well as other latest methodologies. By learning these techniques, horticulturists can enhance their income.

The delegation will hold discussions with the chief plant health officer of the State of Victoria and the Strawberry Industry Certification Authority (VSICA) to gain further insights into plant health management.

Furthermore, the delegation will visit the Elizabeth Agricultural Institute laboratories in Sydney and the state-of-the-art fruit nurseries to learn about the nursery registration programme. Negi hopes that this tour will enable the horticulturists in Himachal Pradesh to bring Australian technology to their state and establish modern laboratories to prepare high-quality plants.

The government of Himachal Pradesh has taken significant steps towards promoting horticulture in the state. It has launched several schemes and programmes to provide subsidies and incentives to farmers for growing high-value crops. The state government has also established various horticulture research and training institutes to impart modern techniques to farmers and horticulturists.
