ATMA Empower Farmers with Modern Machinery Training & Sustainable Practices

Niuland, Nagaland, adapts agri-innovation with ATMA Niuland's week-long program promoting sustainable farming through modern machinery. Simultaneously, ATMA Mokokchung's Ongpangkong North Block focuses on "Good Agricultural Practices," launching a fish farming school and encouraging kitchen gardening for women's self-sustainability and food security.

Niuland located in Nagaland, recently witnessed a proactive move towards promoting innovation and sustainability in agriculture, courtesy of ATMA Niuland's week-long training program under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (SAME) from December 8-14.

This initiative sought to empower aspiring young individuals looking to make a positive impact on the agricultural sector. Throughout the training sessions, participants not only acquired practical knowledge but also gained hands-on experience in utilizing contemporary machinery for efficient and sustainable farming practices, ultimately leading to income generation.

The program enlisted the expertise of seasoned professionals and ATMA experts in agriculture and farm mechanization, providing participants with valuable insights from individuals. The resource persons for this initiative included assistant tech managers Hitokali Jimo, Aketoli Chophy, Mlato, Kaiho Achumi and machine operator Shikaho Sumi.

Meanwhile, on December 11, ATMA Mokokchung, Ongpangkong North Block, conducted farm activities in Chuchuyimpang Village. The block organized a farmer-scientist interaction centered on "Good Agricultural Practices," aiming to augment farmers' awareness and knowledge of modern and sustainable farming methods, adaptable to changing circumstances. The resource persons for this training comprised Assistant Chief Technical Officer (ACTO) in Animal Science KVK, Yisemyong Sarenti from the Fishery Department, Mokokchung Assistant Inspector Neken, ATMA ATM Nuksunginla Jamir, and ATMA ATM Tajungsola Jamir.

The block also inaugurated a specialized farm school dedicated to fish farming, with the primary goal of boosting farmer-to-farmer extension for the efficient transfer of agricultural technology within the farming community. I. Pangerjungba Imsong assumed the role of the farm school teacher, and 20 farmers eagerly enrolled as farm students.

Following the inaugural event, a training session on the "composite and integrated-fish-farming system" was conducted, led by Fishery Department Mokokchung Assistant Inspector Neken. Concurrently, Ongpangkong North Block initiated the Ten Sisters Food Security Group, comprising 10 female members from Chuchuyimpang Village, intending to encourage women farmers to engage in kitchen gardening for self-sustainability and ensure food security for themselves and their families.
