Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Sunday that the situation of farmers has not changed in the last 75 years when mainly two parties have been in power and called for agriculturists' unity.

Speaking at a rally in Loha tehsil in Maharashtra's Nanded district, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader said, the Maharashtra government decided to give farmers Rs 6,000 only after he addressed a gathering in Nanded last month.

"Only two parties have ruled the country in the last 75 years, with other parties got nearly five years. However, there is no difference in the condition of farmers," Rao made the remarks in a veiled swipe at the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"When you showed your power in the past, the rulers had to apologize," Rao said, appealing to farmers to unite. "We should not be divided along religious lines, but rather unite as peasants".

According to him, 41 crore acres of land in India is suitable for agriculture. "I only came here once, and the Maharashtra budget included a provision to give each farmer Rs 6,000 per year. Why hadn't it been done before? This assistance is akin to sprinkling water on a fire. We are not interested. We propose that farmers be given Rs 10,000 per acre to invest in agricultural activities," Rao said.

He also slammed BJP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for saying Rao should focus on Telangana.

"I urge Fadnavis to implement 24-hour water, free electricity for farmers, and the purchase of their harvest. I will no longer visit Maharashtra," the Telangana chief minister said.

He advocated for the best and most efficient use of natural resources such as coal and water. "We use only 19,000 TMC of the 75,000 TMC available, but the rest flows into the Bay of Bengal. We have enough coal to supply the country with electricity for the next 125 years. "Despite this, farmers are having difficulties," he said. Rao announced that BRS would run in Maharashtra's Panchayat elections. "BRS leaders will visit villages and organize membership drives," he added. He claimed that the Telangana government, led by him, improved farmers' conditions over time.

"Telangana was in disarray eighty-nine years ago. Farmers were killing themselves in large numbers. However, we altered the governance and reduced their burden. Why can't a state like Maharashtra, which has more resources, improve if Telangana can?" Rao inquired.

Former Maharashtra Lok Sabha MP Haribhau Rathod, ex-MLAs Shankar Dhondge and Harshvardhan Jadhav, and local political leaders joined the BRS at the rally on Sunday in the presence of KCR.
