Andhra Pradesh- KLIS, Boon for the Siddipet farmers

Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme has impacted the lives of farmers in a positive way. It has helped farmers to increase their productivity and gain profitability. Farmers have appreciated this decision made by the government.

Recently farmers of Siddipet have been blessed with enormous cultivation and an increase in productivity. As the reservoir has been established under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), it has provided massive benefits turning the drought-prone area into fertile land ready for cultivation.

According to reports it has been found that the Siddipet district had cultivated paddy in 1.06 lac acres in the year 2016-17 in the Yasangi season. After the KLIS initiation,the agricultural productivity got increased up to 3.48 lac acres, which has been evaluated as a 230 percent increase in the year 2022-23.

Also, the paddy harvest from individual acre got increased to 7 to 8 quintals.

Korrapati Shivaprasad, Siddipet District Agriculture Officer shared his views on KLIS. He told there has been an enormous increase in terms of productivity and profitability. There has been a power supply of 24*7 and all authorities and agriculture extension officers have been appointed to fulfill their given responsibilities.

Narayanraopet, T Swamy a paddy farmer told that earlier the land would have dried very rapidly, also due to irregular supply and improper facilities they had to suffer huge problems. But now the situation has changed.  After KLIS now the situation has completely changed. The tanks and streams have been brimming with water. Water has been regularly released from Mallanna Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar, and Ranganayaka Sagar.

The officials in charge of agriculture and civil supplies anticipated a record-breaking harvest of over 8 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during Yasangi. As a result, they planned to establish 416 procurement centers throughout the district in order to purchase 6 lakh metric tons.

Also, it has been expected that the rest of the paddy harvest to be kept by farmers for their domestic use and the remaining part is expected to be purchased by private players.
