Mahindra revealed that during a Tech Handshake meeting at the White House, he had an opportunity to catch up with Altman, who confirmed that his words had been misinterpreted during his visit to India.
During his recent visit to India as part of a six-nation tour, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was asked about India's capability to develop an artificial intelligence tool comparable to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Altman's reply, which indicated that he was not skeptical about Indian abilities to compete with OpenAI, generated concern and confusion within the Indian tech community.
However, Anand Mahindra's recent Twitter post shed light on the issue, suggesting that Altman's words had been taken out of context. According to Mahindra's account of their conversation, Altman expressed that he was "far from skeptical about Indian abilities" and that his initial statement was misunderstood. This indicates that Altman does not doubt the ability of Indian startups to create advanced artificial intelligence tools.
