Amazon India Launches Farm-to-Fridge Quality Assurance System for Fresh Produce to Meet Consumer Demand
Amazon India has revealed a farm-to-fridge quality assurance system, employing Machine Learning technology. This solution enhances the monitoring of fresh produce from its source to consumer shelves.

Amazon India has introduced an advanced shelf monitoring solution, employing advanced machine learning (ML) technology to revolutionize the quality assurance process of fresh produce.
This initiative is aimed at empowering Amazon Fresh sellers to respond to customer demands for top-tier fruits and vegetables on the platform. With the integration of this solution, Amazon Fresh will further elevate its grocery services, assuring impeccable quality and customer satisfaction.
Driven by state-of-the-art computer vision models and IoT cameras with Wi-Fi capability, the shelf monitoring solution is designed to identify predetermined flaws in fruits and vegetables by analyzing images of their crates.
The technology detects various visual defects, including cuts, cracks, and pressure damage. Amazon has developed two distinct models - one for item detection and counting, and another to categorize defect types in each item. These models are refined through training with millions of annotated defect images.

Harsh Goyal, Director and Head of Everyday Essentials at Amazon India, emphasized the company's unwavering customer-centric approach. He highlighted the commitment to consistently deliver superior-quality fresh produce across India through the Amazon Fresh platform.
The system for checking shelves can be used manually or automatically. When done manually, workers use the Johari app to send pictures of fruit and veg crates from their phones. The system checks these pictures to see if the items are of good quality and spot any problems. This helps to make sure that items that aren't up to standard are found and managed correctly.
Amazon's introduction of this innovative technology symbolizes dedication to enhancing the customer experience and reinforcing the quality of its services.
