‘All India Kisan Sabha’ To March To Office of Maharashtra Revenue Minster For Resolving Farmer’s Issues

The AIKS claims that excessive and unseasonal rains over the last two years have destroyed the crops in large parts of the state, and the state government declared to provide compensation for the loss of crops, but no compensation has been provided.

From April 26 to 28, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) is set to conduct a three-day march to the office of the Maharashtra Minister of Revenue, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra.

The AIKS claimed that the march has been organised because the minister has not addressed the basic issues of the farmers, workers, and agricultural labourers. According to the release, if the demands of the AIKS are not met, an indefinite Mahapadav will be conducted at Loni.

According to a released statement, the AIKS is backed by the Centre of the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU), Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), the Students' Federation of India (SFI),  the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), and other mass organisations.

The AIKS claims that excessive and unseasonal rains over the last two years have destroyed the crops in large parts of the state, and the state government declared to provide compensation for the loss of crops, but no compensation has been provided. The government has assured peasants and agricultural workers of vested forest land, temple land, reward land, waqf land, pasture land, and housing land, many of whom have been tilling the land for several generations.

However, instead of vesting land in their names, the police and forest department were misused to beat up poor peasants and drive them out of their meagre land and houses. With very little compensation the lands are being forcibly taken for constructing highways, corridors, and airports.

AIKS accused the state administration of failing to address challenges in the agriculture and dairy sectors. Milk peasants sold their milk for Rs 17 per litre during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. As the dairy sector recovers from the epidemic's devastation, the government has begun measures to import milk and dairy products, endangering their survival once more. Cotton, soybean, tur, gramme, and other crop prices have fallen dramatically.

The farmers organisation said that with no support or help from the government the problems of unorganised workers like Asha, Anganwadi, the Mid-day meal scheme, construction workers, and domestic workers, are becoming grim. The AIKS is demanding that the government should address the issues of the farmers, workers, and agricultural labourers, and provide them with compensation for the loss of crops due to excessive rains.

They have also demanded that the government should provide vested land to peasants and agricultural workers and stop the forced acquisition of their lands. The AIKS also demanded that the government should address the issues of the dairy sector and the agriculture sector and provide farmers with fair prices for their produce.
