Organizers of the world's largest farm machinery show, Agritechnica, have canceled an already postponed 2022 event due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and lawsuits.
DLG, the German Agricultural Society, has officially canceled an event that has been postponed from its traditional date of November 2021 to Feb. 27, 2022.
Agritechnica usually attracts 2,800 advertisers and more than 486,000 visitors to Hanover.
The DLG said that due to national and international developments regarding the corona pandemic and the growing number of cases of Omnicron, DLG, the VDMA Agricultural Machinery Association and the Agritechnica board of trustees decided to jointly postpone the event.
Reinhard Grandke, chief executive officer of the DLG, said, "With regret, we have seen that, following the deterioration of the epidemic in recent weeks and the existing legal framework, a fair situation has arisen, where killings without problems. Agritechnica is no longer possible."
Additional focus will be on preparing for Agritechnica 2023 and other national and international DLG events.
In recent weeks, major advertisers John Deere and JCB had already confirmed that they were not exhibiting at Agritechnica in 2022 citing a bad time. John Deere said farmers will be in the fields working on the scheduled exhibition days in February and that will affect visitor numbers.
Bernd Scherer, managing director of the VDMA Agricultural Machinery Association, said all sides regretted Agritechnica's failure.
“After all, new equipment, tools and software tools have a huge impact on sustainable agricultural production systems and future proofs. Being able to present our comprehensive portfolio of innovations to a wide range of spectators living on an international stage is still a gold standard. "
In recent days, Agritechnica has announced a number of new awards although details are not available.
