Agricultural Expert Says, Goa Can Easily Adopt Natural Farming
Parveen Kumar expressed his belief that natural farming can be readily implemented in Goa, given its geographical location and abundant natural resources.
During a recent natural farming training event organized at the ICAR- Central Coastal Agriculture Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI) as part of the 'International Year of Millets', Parveen Kumar expressed his belief that "natural farming can be readily implemented in Goa, given its geographical location and abundant natural resources."
A group of 45 farmers, which also included women, gathered to attend a live demonstration at the farm of agriculturist Sanjay Patil in Savoi Verem. During the event, Patil shared his expertise on the mass multiplication of 'jeevamrut', which is a type of natural liquid fertilizer, and demonstrated its application to all of his plants.
HRC Prabhu, who is a senior scientist at the institute and the program director, informed the farmers about a training program related to natural farming.
Natural Farming approach, also known as traditional farming, involves farming without the use of chemicals. It is a diversified farming system that incorporates agroecology principles and involves a mix of crops, trees, and livestock, along with functional biodiversity.
Monica Suresh Singh, who is a subject matter specialist in agricultural extension at ICAR-CCARI, emphasized the significance of natural farming during the technical session. Additionally, Dr. Parmesha V, who is an ICAR-CCARI scientist in agronomy, gave a lecture on how to cultivate main crops in Goa using natural farming techniques.
Soil scientist Rahul Kulkarni has showcased the process of producing jeevamrut soil, which is recognized for its organic and nutrient-rich properties.
