Advanta Enterprises and nurture.farm have joined forces to launch the Nutrifeed Germination Scheme, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at safeguarding dairy farmers against germination failures of forage crops, particularly Forage Millet Hybrids Nutrifeed.

This scheme seeks to support farmers in sustaining themselves during periods of crisis by providing compensation if the seed fails to germinate within 15 days of sowing. Forage crops, including sorghum, millet, and corn, are vulnerable to germination failures, resulting in substantial losses for farmers. The Nutrifeed Germination Scheme aims to bridge these critical gaps.

Prashant Belgamwar, Regional Head – Asia & Africa and International Vegetables at Advanta Enterprises, expressed his confidence in the Hybrid Nutrifeed, which has become a benchmark for green fodder. He stated, "Farmers appreciate this hybrid for its high yield potential, multiple cuts that ensure a steady supply of fodder, minimal pest and disease infestation, highly nutritious fodder with elevated protein content and digestibility, reducing dependence on concentrates, and ultimately leading to increased milk production and higher earnings. Nutrifeed has truly earned its reputation as an exceptional forage crop. By partnering with nurture.farm to extend the germination risk cover, Advanta aims to instill confidence in farmers that their risks will be mitigated if the seed fails to germinate due to environmental stress. This assurance empowers farmers to make strides in their dairy farming endeavors."

Belgamwar further explained, "The germination risk cover was a testament to their faith in Nutrifeed. By engineering seed quality that withstands weather and environmental changes, they have developed a product that ensures germination. Collaborating with nurture.farm to offer a germination risk cover scheme reaffirms their commitment to farmers by guaranteeing assured germination and minimizing risks associated with weather, temperature, crop loss, and financial uncertainties."

Vivek Lalan, Head of Insurance at nurture.farm, expressed, "India supports approximately 20 percent of the global livestock population, while forage crops are cultivated on less than 5 percent of the country's arable land. The objective of the Nutrifeed Germination Scheme is to offer protection to farmers against financial losses resulting from germination failures caused by adverse weather conditions. It aims to provide resilience and support in the face of such challenges. Forage crops play a crucial role in preventing soil erosion, boosting organic carbon content, enriching the soil with nitrogen, and enhancing overall soil fertility. Typically used for crop rotation and as livestock fodder, forage crops are vital for effective animal nutrition management. Therefore, ensuring the successful germination of forage crops and safeguarding farmers' interests in case of germination failure becomes of paramount importance."

With the assurance of compensation for germination failures, farmers can now approach their dairy farming endeavors with increased confidence, knowing that their risks are covered. This collaborative effort aims to fortify the dairy farming industry, mitigate losses resulting from germination failures, and ultimately contribute to the overall welfare of dairy farmers across the country.
