AAU Delegates Gain Valuable Insight into Latest Agricultural Trends
Representatives from AAU engaged with scientists from ISARC to discuss current advancements in precision agriculture, GIS, mechanization, post-harvest management, and seed systems.

To promote learning and enhance the effectiveness of interventions carried out as part of the ongoing 'Assam Agri-business and Rural Transformation Project' (APART) in Assam, senior scientists and extension personnel from Assam Agricultural University (AAU) recently paid a three-day visit to the International Rice Research Institute's South Asia Regional Centre (IRRI-SARC) in Varanasi from May 11 to 13. The visit was aimed at strengthening existing connections and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
Representatives from AAU engaged with scientists from ISARC to discuss current advancements in precision agriculture, GIS, mechanization, post-harvest management, and seed systems. The delegation consisted of department heads from various departments at AAU, as well as senior and principal scientists, and the head of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Assam.

During the conference with the delegates, Sudhanshu Singh, the director of ISARC, emphasized the importance of intensifying crop cultivation on rice fallows in Assam to enhance cropping intensity.
“The IRRI team is about to embark on the task of drafting a policy paper focused on crop intensification and rice fallow. The goal of this paper is to harness the rice-fallow areas in Assam and move forward with this initiative,” he said.

According to Kalyan Pathak, who serves as the head of the Agronomy department at AAU, when recounting his visit, he shared his experience, “Throughout our three-day visit to the ISARC, we have had the privilege of witnessing the implementation of diverse technologies within the field of rice science.“
