15 Clusters of Farmers To Get 10 Lakhs Each For Carrying Out Organic Farming On 300 Hectares
According to the official, these farmer groups would also receive assistance with soil testing, green manure, establishing composition depots, and buying organic fertilisers.
According to a state agriculture department official, a company in Maharashtra's Latur district would operate 300 hectares of organic farmland.
In order to cultivate crops in Chakur tehsil here without using pesticides, fifteen clusters of farmers have been organised for this effort, and each of them will receive Rs 10 lakh over the following three years, he said.
“Chemical fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides are used in large quantities for cultivation. To stop harmful effects from such products, the state agriculture department is promoting organic farming under the Conventional Agriculture Development Scheme (CADS),” the official said.
“The Nalegaon-based company will coordinate to implement organic farming on 300 hectares in the district under the Agricultural Technology Management System. The Rs 10 lakh given to each farmers’ cluster will include aid to obtain Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) certification,” he said.
PGS is a quality control programme the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare runs as part of its National Project of Organic Farming (NPOF).
According to the official, these farmer groups would also receive assistance with soil testing, green manure, establishing composition depots, and buying organic fertilisers.
Each cluster consists of 20 farmers from Nalegaon, Ajansonda (Khurd), Sawantwadi, Hatkarwadi, Ukachiwadi, Hudgewadi, Limbalwadi, Sugaon, and Gharni villages, he said.
“The aim is to provide chemical-free produce to consumers,” said Dattatray Gavasane, project director of the Agricultural Technology Management System.
